September 26, 2014 -- Two Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) projects in Otsego and Cheboygan counties wrapped up work two weeks ahead of schedule, removing traffic restrictions early for drivers.
A resurfacing project on I-75 in northern Otsego County started Sept. 8, and was originally scheduled to be complete on Oct. 13. Paving for that project wrapped up on Thursday, Sept. 25, with rumble strip installation and pavement markings soon to follow. Rieth-Riley Construction Co. of Petoskey is the contractor on the project.
Deck patching and railing repair on the Old M-108 bridge over I-75 in Cheboygan County started Aug. 11. Originally scheduled for completion Oct. 3, that project was finished on Sept. 19. Anlaan Corp. of Ferrysburg was the contractor on that project.
"We certainly appreciate the hard work that Rieth-Riley, Anlaan, and their employees put into these jobs," said Matt Radulski, construction engineer with MDOT's Gaylord Transportation Service Center (TSC). "MDOT and northern Michigan drivers are pleased they were able to deliver these projects faster than expected."
The I-75 resurfacing project required lane closures and traffic shifts. The bridge work required lane closures with temporary traffic signals.
